Halloween is Extra Scary
Lily and I went shopping for a Halloween costume today. We went to Party City where we often get her costumes. Is it necessary for all of the costumes to be sexy? The male costumes are funny or heroic. The female costumes are sexy devil, sexy nurse, sexy cheerleader, sexy disco girl, sexy witch, sexy nun, you name it -- it should have had the word "sexy" in front of the name. Isn't there any other way for a 12-year-old girl to have fun?
She's too old for Tinkerbell, Cinderella, angels or any other critters with wings (I did push for a butterfly). I honestly don't think there was a single thing that appealed to her -- or to me.
We did get a huge laugh out of the cowboy riding the bucking bronco, an inflatable costume that looked funnier in the store than the one I found on the internet. And I hate to tell you how funny I thought the lost dog costume was.
We left empty handed. Lily's going to come up with her own costume. Whatever it is, it will be better than what we saw.

I like the cowboy one. Too funny!
Shy is going as a pirate. She's eleven this year, so this will more than likely be it for her.

Halloween was always a tough time, especially for those of us that were/are horse fan-nat-tics!! Over sexed costumes are a bit gross, and prissy costumes will inevitably cause one to roll there lip up. (very similar to horses smelling urine or even dogs about to bite).. Just keep your fingers crossed that Lilly does not come up with my habits.. my favorite haloween costume: I would do my trick or treating on horseback. Oh, the the absolute responses and envy you would receive from everyone!!! The extra apples (to feed the horse- (yes, this horse was a TRUE babysitter- her only fear in life was moving bull-dozers)& the mountains of extra candy (the good stuff!!) because kids would trade you for a ride (only to the next house) - You could absolutely wear anything, so long as you had the hat.. ooooo and let's not forget to put some of the florescent glow in the dark liquid all over the hat & the horse!!!
So, good luck with haloween & I hope Lilly comes up with a great costume.

Jane, you always have more fun than anybody. Annie's the only horse we could have even thought about taking Trick or Treating, and she would have eaten all the candy.
What a wonderful memory for you to have of your childhood. Wish I'd known you then!
