Lucy's On-going Recovery
Good news! The vet just left and not only did she only charge me $40, but also Lucy is much better. (Things weren't looking too good for a while.)
And even better news (which I'm glad I didn't know) was that the vet was expecting to have to do ultrasounds, x-rays, nerve blockers and other diagnostic Big Bucks to try to nail down the problem. I'm really, really happy that Lucy is making a very good recovery, and really, really happy I didn't know that my morning might include ultrasounds, x-rays, etc.
The program: Over the next two weeks ride Lucy at a walk on firm ground in a straight line for five minutes a day, slowly increasing to 30 minutes per day. Then we'll see, but after that two weeks aim for riding 30 minutes at the walk twice a day (how convenient that will be!). She can't resume any real work for six months and we'll always have to keep an eye on that superficial whatsit ligament, though the vet says she knows Preliminary level eventers who've had this problem.
Buddy spent the whole time in the vet's face. He didn't like being the one who wasn't getting any attention. He was aggressively friendly. That's what we've got. Pet horses.
Here's Lucy getting her nap interrupted. Please notice how svelte she is.

Go Lucy!! Keep getting better there big mare, and stop making your Momma worry so darn much!

Just a thought, probably you've considered this already, but maybe a suitable trim by the farrier might help too?
