Purina Recalls Horse Feed -- No Public Announcement
I just received an e-mail through our 4-H club that Purina has issued a horse feed recall. I don't feed Purina but in case you do you need the following information, as for some reason the recall was issued to dealers but not the public. When I went to the Purina web site to find their announcement, it was in a .pdf file that I couldn't copy and it didn't have a url I could copy either. I was willing to give them some benefit of the doubt before that. They also closed that "announcement" with wording designed to scare people who don't use Purina, saying that the problem was from one supplier that other feed manufacturers use, too.
Oh. And it's not a product recall. It's a Purina product retrieval.
Here's text from the e-mail I received:
The recalled products
are from these 3 East Coast Plants: Guilderland, NY; Harrisburg, PA; Statesville, NC.
The mfg plant codes are: GDL, HAR, STA If these codes
are on your feed bags, stop feed and contact your dealer now. Purina Phone number
is: 1-800-227-8941
Those who are in Ohio, Tenn, KY, Mississippi and states
East of there should all check their feed to be sure it isn't among the recall list.
This is the list of products,
but only if from the GDL, HAR, STA plant

Produt RETRIEVAL? Dude?,.....
OK, if they say so... I dont feed Purina, never did like the feed, and neither did my horses.
Funny they are recall--- err, excuse me, Retrieving feed from Guilderland NY. I used to work in G'land at a vets office there. Pretty area, but h*ll in the winter. Dont miss it ONE bit! ;)
Hope that there are no issues from the contaminated feeds..... Hate to hear of things that happened later on.

I'm not feeding Purina at this time, either, but have in the past. Thanks for the heads-up, though. I've got to go out and look at my bags. Likely they weren't produced all the way back east.

Interesting. I hadn't heard of the recall. Retrieval. Whatever.
I have been using their Ultimum feed with great success this spring.

Thanks for the information! I do use Purina Senior feed and just bought 4 bags and filled the bins! Now, I dashing out to the barn. Thank goodness I still have the empty bags.
Maybe, I'll just switch to something else and avoid the risk!
Thanks again!!

thanks for the info. i just called my local feed store (i feed equine senior) and they informed me that i have, in fact, probably already fed the contaminated feed from the guilderland plant a few months ago, though, they were happy to tell me, none of their current stock is affected by the recall, just the stuff i already bought and fed earlier. hooray. now off to call the vet. i'm switching back to feeding straights. these mixed feeds are nothing but trouble!

OMG! I was just looking through horse blogs and I found this! I feed Country Acres to my horse. I'm going first thing in the morning to see if I'm in the "product retrieval". I'm in Florida.
Thank you!!
